TAB SIGNED MOU WITH KOREAN COMPANY IN E-SECURITY BUSINESS

18 MAY 2006 - Telekom Applied Business Sdn Bhd (TAB), a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DreamSecurity Co. Ltd., a Korean company. The auspicious event took place at the Seminar Hall on Level 50 Menara TM.

The purpose of the MOU is to establish a collaboration to cooperate in the development and marketing of online and wireless telecommunications network and security in Malaysia, the OIC market, as well as other related markets.

Through the signing of this MOU, both parties will work together to achieve the following:
•    To develop, implement and introduce the Wireless Secure Socket Layer (WSSL) and Wireless Public Key Infrastructure (Wireless PKI) which are relatively new territories in the Malaysian market. The secured internet portal that subscribe to WSSL and WPKI can offer secured internet services that cater for both the wired and wireless internet environment thus capitalizing the huge 9 million internet users and 18 millions mobile subscribers.
•    To jointly market E-security products to domestic, TM Overseas ventures and OIC countries.

The MOU was signed by TAB’s Chief Executive Officer, Anuar Alias and DreamSecurity’s Chief Executive Officer and President, SugSoon Hwang, and witnessed by TAB’s Chairman and TM’s Senior Vice President Group Strategy and Technology, Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, with DreamSecurity’s Sales & Marketing Director, HyungSoo Kim.

Speaking at the event, Zamzamzairani said, “With DreamSecurity's vast experience in implementing the KISA (Korea Information Security Agency) standard for the Korea Government, TAB hopes to be able to learn from this experience and can become a player in implementing Malaysia's National Standard for Information Security. This MOU is hoped to expedite the knowledge transfer between the two organizations, and foster a win-win business relationship between the two parties.”

Dream Security Ltd is an established Korean company with an excellent track record in the Korean security market. Its core technologies are in the area of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for the wired line and wireless network. Their security products have been successfully deployed in Korea and have been certified by Microsoft of meeting international standards.

This MOU signing ceremony is a significant milestone for TAB as it is part of TAB's transformation plan to grow its business in two areas namely; messaging and E-security.

The E-security business is a new business area that TAB is venturing into due to anticipated potential with the proliferations of E-business and M-business. Under the 9th Malaysia plan, the government projected the E-commerce business transactions will grow to RM155 billions.

One of the key drivers for the huge adoption of E-business and M-business is the increased confidence by the public, companies and other service providers in doing business online. Therefore, the key enablers for the proliferations of E-business and M-business will the security components that will ensure all transactions done on line to be secured and non repudiated.

This MOU will open up new opportunities for both TAB and DreamSecurities. It will be the starting point for TAB's transformation, and will provide TM with a new type of business venture. Both parties will capitalise on each other strengths in seizing the business opportunities and will become a key E-security player in Malaysia.
